Halloween Weekend

It was a long weekend around our house last weekend as D &S's school was closed Thursday and Friday for teacher's continuing education time. This meant Mommy and Daddy either worked from home or just took a little time off. It ended up being a bit of both. We got a few things done on Thursday (work things that is) and then headed to Owl Nest Park... well, at least that is what we've been calling it. It is a great little park with brand new play ground equipment very close to our house. The highest part looks like a tree with an owl nest on top. This park also happens to be just a fence from the train in town - super attractive to all the kids and parents clearly...

Perhaps you can see in this silly Instagram photo (fun filters, but sometimes odd) that most people are wearing short sleeves and certainly NOT JACKETS. This was Thursday. Late on Thursday a front moved through the area and WHAM! We were all chilly on Friday. What this meant was a much smaller amount of competition at the playground when we headed out on Friday morning.

Thursday night we stayed warm inside and had some pumpkin carving fun... with a dinosaur and a tiger planned for the grand event of the weekend we decided to reflect this in this year's pumpkins.

The T-Rex is in the house! Seriously this might be the best photo we got. He was so excited he just kept stomping around exploring his T-Rex kingdom.

Ahh, of course, there were good things for mommy and daddy too! Dylan had a few but not many.

The next morning, we headed out again in the cold to a park. This time the lake front was calling our names and D was playing the role of Daddy's boy. I think the more fun experiences he has with Daddy the more he enjoys that special time. So when we got to the park it was mommy and S who were sent away on a little walk. Upon return, it was a small miracle that S and I were allowed near the special swing area. We worked our way over and S got her first playground swing ride - quite bundled up!

That evening D had a special treat and so did mommy and Daddy. His favorite sitter was home from college so we had a little night out and she enjoyed a night with D. She even helped with a witch hat craft and messaged us a photo. He has been obsessed with witches lately. They had a story in school and ever since then we almost lost our dinosaur and got a witch instead. I had hoped the craft would appease his desire to change costumes at the last minute and it did. Don't be surprised if we have a little witch next year - S or D, it might just be both!

The weekend highlight was of course trick-or-treating! In our neighborhood we head out on a special night, they close down the streets to traffic and everyone comes out for the fun. If I had more time, I'd get up a video from one of the houses that we passed. HUGE on the big Boulevard with all sorts of decorations and noises coming out of it.

That's all for now. Had a great couple of days vising my sister and mom for my sister's birthday and tomorrow it's back to life and church and all the busy things that come along with that.
