Visit with family...
We had a great trip to the Twin Cities and to Luck. Dylan FLEW for the first time on an airplane! He actually did better than we anticipated, the lines weren't too bad and we really only had minor delays.
Our flight out was early on Friday morning. Meticulous packing the night before meant that we zoomed out of the house with little delay. What looked like a long line initially at the airport turned out to be pretty straight forward and we breezed through security in the short family line - much shorter than the normal line -wild!
I feel like once you get past security it already feels like vacation even though you are technically in the same city. I forget that the vendors and restaurant workers likely live in Milwaukee. For all I know, I could be in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It's wonderful!
The next hurdle was, would Dylan be ok on the flight...what about his ears? What about my recently healed from ear infection ears? Would the pressure drive us both to screams? No, actually. We started taking off and Dylan almost jumped from my lap to Eric's to look out the window. Fascinating, I'm sure is what he was thinking! Landing went well too and as we waited to exit the plane Dylan giggled at the kids sitting behind us (they were on their way to Hawaii with their grandparents) and flirted with the flight attendant.
Our first destination, Ikea! For a bath mat for Dylan and a little time for us. We also grabbed some breakfast there - cheap-0! It actually tasted good and Dylan ate almost all of my eggs! Then off to Grandpa's house for an evening with Aunt Kristie, Uncle Aaron and the nephews.
It was warm but we went for a nice walk and got ice cream treats! We walked again earlier the next morning and Dylan got a ride on daddy's lap!
Then we drove to Luck to see Grandma. The next morning, Great-Grandma and Aunt Gail visited too! It was a whirlwind of family activity!
After all that, you can imagine a little guy would be tired and a done with the car seat... he was... but the flight home went well anyway. Dylan's bedtime is about 7/7:30 so the slight delay made him a little fussy upon landing...
This shot is from the car ride to the airport... and the reason we flew in the first place. What would you rather do, sit on mommy and daddy's laps or be strapped into a seat?
